BALI PURA TAMAN SARASWATI

Pura Taman Saraswati Temple is located in the heart of Ubud and its construction was overseen by I Gusti Nyoman Lempad, a prolific artist in his time. The name of the temple is derived from the Hindu goddess Saraswati, the goddess credited with the gift of art, literature and inborn wisdom.

The gate is an elaborate work of art whose central location is blocked by a wall. The latter is believed to protect the sacred location from evil spirits. The maintenance of Pura Taman Saraswati is overseen by locals who volunteer to clean up the ponds and generally ensure the place of worship remains untainted.

The front part of the Pura Taman Saraswati is home to a magnificent lotus-filled pond. The water that fills this pond is obtained from an irrigation scheme that provides water for the verdant rice paddies located in the upper region of the town.

Located in the centre of Ubud, this temple is easy to access. Entry to the temple is free, however, you must wear a sarong to cover your knees and angles. Tops that cover shoulders and midriff are also a must. If you come to the temple after dark, there are regular dance performances held here which start at 7.30pm each night. There is also a cafe located on site which offers a dinner which costs around 200,000 per person. So come along and have dinner here and watch the show.
